Artifact Collections
The backbone of the facility is the Collection, both two and three dimensional pieces. What would a Museum be without its collection?
- I would like to see your featured artefacts…
- I would like to see a gallery / slideshow of your artefacts…
- I would like more information on donating artefacts…
The BCM&CC has an impressive collection gathered over its 50 + years of operation, mainly through donations from County residents. It is a high quality collection, containing County-related artefacts, including many First Nations artefacts and several objects of national significance.
Due to the vast number of artefacts, only a small portion of the collection may be displayed at one time. Temporary exhibits showcase objects within the collection normally kept in storage. In addition, collection items are displayed throughout the museum in both public and administrative areas.
Many pieces of the BCM&CC collection are loaned to small museums and businesses in the area. The Chesley Heritage and Woodworking Museum has Krug furniture, and tools. The Kincardine, Point Clark and Chantry Island Lighthouse keeper’s homes are furnished with period items and marine artefacts. Items are also housed in the Pine River Cheese second floor observatory and features dairy and cheese making objects.
A well documented collection, including the research of artefacts, their story, and the family background that goes along with it, is an exciting accomplishment. Collections staff may not always be visible, usually working behind the scenes. Everything has a story, and we are here to document it in full, to preserve the history of the County of Bruce, its people and their lives.
