A History of Egyptian Music and Dance – Shalimar (Suzanne Myers), Middle Eastern Dancer
Join Shalimar for a look at the long, rich history of the dances of ancient Egypt. Imagine yourself sitting in the court of Pharaoh taking in the entertainment, or walking the dusty lanes of the city clapping to the rhythms of the street dancers’ drums. You will be surprised and delighted by this fascinating story that spans the ancient world.
November 10
Tomb Robbery in Ancient Egypt – Daniel Kolos, Egyptologist, Archaeologist, Historian
No sooner a king was buried, his tomb was robbed. The Pharaohs knew this sad fact, and so did their necropolis workmen. Court documents have surfaced to prove that both, plus their intermediaries, were in cahoots in robbing their ancestors! This illustrated PowerPoint presentation will take you into tombs, face to face with robbed, discarded and torn mummies.
November 24
Courtship, Love and Sex in Ancient Egypt – Daniel Kolos, Egyptologist, Archaeologist, Historian
**Due to adult content, this lecture is for those aged 19 and up**.
While the Archaeology of ancient Egypt focuses on mummies and tombs, snippets of intimate everyday life have surfaced: poetry of courting, hand drawn pictures of love making and mythological stories and ‘cartoons’ that will make the most liberal of us blush. This presentation will focus on scholarly interpretation of ancient Egyptian sexuality, backed up by texts and amply illustrated with PowerPoint slides.
