Admission by Donation

For those who appreciate good music and an intimate setting, this series is for you! Candlelight Music is a series of performances by mostly local performers, but also includes occasional distance performers.

Music performed ranges from traditional, to Jazz, to modern, to classical, folk and more. Admission is by donation, and the performers receive half of the door admissions.

We want to thank Ontario Power Generation for their continued support, which allows us to keep these concerts as admission by donation events. Come and sit back, relax and enjoy weekly concerts, from mid-November to mid-December, building up to the holiday season.

November 19 – Pete Rissi Trio An afternoon of traditional, Swing, Pop, Jazz and a little bit of Folk!

The Pete Rissi Trio is made up of 3 local guys…

Pete Rissi is a veteran of the music scene in Grey Bruce counties, primarily as a jazz trombonist. He has also performed with Sounder, the Bearcats, Georgian Bay Symphony, and Stardust Big Band amongst many groups, and is presently with the Noodle Factory Jazz Project.

Larry Dickinson plays bass, acoustic guitar, and sings in various local groups. He has most recently worked with a variety of musical groups including Beggars Road, an Elvis tribute band called Jailhouse Rock, with Larry Jensen as a duo, and with his brother, Steve Dickinson.

David Farrar is a drummer and vocalist having worked with the likes of Arrandale, The Shards, Beggars Road, Fly Eyed Mule, and Tommy Gilham & the Chill Billy’s. Recently he sat in with Oliver Schroer, Ken Whitley, and now gets a different feel with this small jazz trio.

November 26 Paul Danard & Mike Grace – Classical & Jazz, with a touch of Brazil!

Paul Danard has been performing and teaching music in Grey Bruce full-time for the last fifteen years. He has played as a soloist, in small combos, and big bands, and has recently added lap steel guitar and vocals to his musical endeavours.

Mike Grace has been a professional musician all most all of his life. From playing ranch parties and road houses in Texas, to touring the world with his trio or quartet, Mike has made performing classical and jazz music his passion.

December 3Jubal’s DaughtersWith flute, harp and humour, hear sounds of Classical to Oriental, Celtic to Jazz, Popular to Sacred.

Averil Spence-Clarke who was born in Jamaica, has performed extensively across Canada, Europe and the Caribbean.

Anita Leschied, a certified harp therapist, was raising her family and actively performing in Windsor and Detroit. She also performed with the Windsor Symphony Orchestra for 12 years.

Averil and Anita met in 1989 in Windsor when both were looking for musical opportunities outside of symphonic work. They both feel their music is an expression of their spiritual faith and often share their joy of playing with school groups and students, encouraging youngsters to pursue their training in all aspects of music.

December 10 – Stephanie CodeStephanie, with her warm mezzo-soprano voice, will perform a classical repertoire along with well known Christmas favourites.

Stephanie Code is currently in her final year at the University of Western Ontario studying Music Voice Performance with Patricia Green. In second year she had the wonderful opportunity to sing as a chorus member in the University of Western Opera’s production of Mozart’s Don Giovanni. In her third year Stephanie sang the role of Cherubino in University of Western Opera’s Le Nozze di Figaro by Mozart. This year she is planning to audition for Masters Programs at schools in Canada, the United States, and overseas.

December 17Georgian Bay Woodwind Quintet – This talented quintet will perform a program of their favourites along with music of the season.

The Georgian Bay Woodwind Quintet, formed in 2004, is comprised of members of the Georgian Bay Symphony. Its members include Meryl Gillmore – Flute, Heather Willmes – Oboe, Rob Tite – Clarinet, Jaime McCormick – Horn,  and Sterling MacNay – Bassoon.

Since their first engagement for a church service in Owen Sound, they have played at the Tom Thompson Gallery in Owen Sound, the Bruce County Museum & Cultural Centre in Southampton, Christ Church Anglican in Markdale, 125th Celebration for Owen Sound, Summer Music in Southampton, Kincardine Summer Music Festival, for the Georgian Bay Symphony Chamber series, and with the main Georgian Bay Symphony series. They continue to enjoy rehearsing, learning and laughing together as they make music.
