Pioneer Moving Day – Grade Three

Print This Post Print This Post

Many early settlers came from Europe to Bruce County to settle in this new land.  They were looking for work, adventure and the excitement of moving to a new country.

They came by ship to Canada, but then had to travel into Bruce County to get to their new plot of land.  Students will examine an ox cart filled with artifacts that a pioneer family might have brought with them on the journey to their new home.

They will make educated guesses on the name and purpose of the artifacts and then we will discuss why a pioneer would want to take these objects with them.  Students will also try to come to a consensus on what items they believe are essential, and which items they would be able to do without if they were part of a pioneer family.
