A Day In The Life Of A Pioneer Child
This educational program is designed to introduce students to the daily life of a child in pioneer times. The program will take place in the Log Home and the Log School that are located on the Bruce County Museum & Cultural Centre’s property. Learning within these two historic buildings will provide a unique educational experience for students.

Ghostly Guardians of The Bruce Coast
Explore our new lighthouse exhibit with the Ghostly Guardians of the Bruce Coast science educational program. Students will investigate natural and man made structures and create their own structures to test.

Grandmother’s Circle – Grade Three
Joining Grandmother’s Circle, students will experience the unique education of early aboriginal children. The formal part came from their Grandfather’s / Grandmother’s circle where stories were told which illustrated special life lessons. Equally important yet less formal were the games that were taught and played under the watchful eyes of their elders. This activity-based program will bring these lessons to life!

Pioneer Moving Day – Grade Three
Learn about how Pioneers traveled to their new home and what items they would take with them. Students will make decisions on items that they would take with them both in the past, and if they were moving today.

Pioneer Mystery Box – Grade Three
Students will become Museum Artifact Specialists in this simulation of Museum life. They will have the chance to handle artifacts and learn about each artifact.

Aboriginal Pinch Pots – Grade Three
Aboriginals produced pottery vessels to hold water, corn and other materials. Through many generations they developed shapes and patterns to suit their needs and to identify their communities. Students will examine native pottery artifacts, some as much as 600 years old, and examine shapes, clay thickness and decorative patterns. Using clay and tools provided, students will then produce their own replica pot to take home.

Cultural Scene Investigation – Grade Three
As Cultural Scene Investigators, your students will discover several facts about the emergence of Aboriginal society in Bruce County. After students have been given a general tour of the gallery they will use their own detective skills to collect evidence of Aboriginal culture with a special emphasis on use of the environment, early technologies and what Natives and Europeans learned from each other.

Holiday Traditions – Grades Two & Three
Students will explore holiday traditions from around the world; where they began and how the holidays were celebrated during Pioneer times. Students will also get to share their own unique family holiday traditions.
