Home | Events & Programs | Overcoming Brick Walls: Case Studies, with guest speaker, Emma Maxwell

March 9, 2026

7:00 pm

Virtual via Zoom

In this presentation, experienced Scottish genealogist Emma Maxwell demonstrates how to overcome genealogy brick walls using a variety of research methods. Emma uses three case studies, each with a different challenge, and demonstrates how each problem was solved.

Emma Maxwell is a professional genealogist and co-founder of Scottish Indexes. Since 2001, she and her husband Graham Maxwell have painstakingly indexed thousands of historic Scottish family history records, making them accessible to researchers around the world. Her work combines archival rigour with engaging storytelling. Emma has appeared on BBC’s “Who Do You Think You Are?” and regularly speaks at major genealogy conferences, where she shares practical methods for turning indexed data into vivid ancestral narratives.

Hosted by the Bruce County Genealogical Society.
