Pride Month Film Screening & Director Talk-Back

June 8 | 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM

Take me to prom film and director andrew moir

On June 8th, join us in our Bruce Power Theatre for a screening of Take Me to Prom (CBC Docs), a critically acclaimed documentary directed by Andrew Moir, who will join us in person post-screening to share behind-the-scenes insights into the making of the film.

 

A panel discussion with  community members will follow with an opportunity for audience engagement around current cultural and political issues facing 2SLGBTQIA+ groups in Canada, and the US today.

About Andrew Moir

Originally from London, Ontario, Andrew Moir is a Canadian documentary filmmaker most noted for his 2019 film Take Me to Prom, which won the Canadian Screen Award for Best Short Documentary Film at the 8th Canadian Screen Awards in 2020. His additional films include Just As I Remember (2012), and Babe, I Hate to Go (2017).

 

In 2022, his full-length feature debut Don’t Come Searching, an expansion of Babe, I Hate to Go, was released.

 

About the film

Queer folks of all ages share a moment from their high school prom. Take Me to Prom is a colourful, celebratory, poignant short documentary that invites audiences to revisit an iconic teenage milestone while telling an intergenerational story of social change.

 

The film premiered in 2019 at the Hot Docs Film Festival and has since won the Canadian Screen Award for best short documentary and was longlisted for an Academy Award.

Visit the Museum to browse this selection of books that highlights local authors and stories for all ages that offer a pathway to learning more about the 2SLGBTQIA+ community.

Kincardine Pride Parade

June 24 | 11:00 AM

As a proud partner of Kincardine Pride, the BCM&CC will be marching in the 5th annual Kincardine Pride Parade on June 24th. This event celebrates 2SLGBTQIA+ diversity and inclusiveness within Bruce County and promotes awareness, respect and dignity of gender-diverse residents and visitors.

 

All LGBTQ2S+ supporters, allies, families and friends are welcome to attend. We hope to see you there!
