DESCRIPTION:Walk for Wenjack – Cape Croker Park\, Neyaashiingmiing \nAugust 14 – Gather at the Arbour | 1:00 PM | Refreshments provided.  \n  \nThe Gord Downie & Chanie Wenjack Fund is part of Gord Downie’s legacy and embodies his commitment\, and that of his family\, to improving lives of First Peoples in Canada.  \nIn collaboration with the Wenjack Family\, the goal of the Fund is to continue the conversation that began with Chanie Wenjack’s residential school story\, and to aid our collective reconciliation journey through a combination of awareness\, education\, and action.   \nIn 2025\, walks will be held in five communities\, including new events in the Municipality of Kincardine and Municipality of Brockton.  \nThese events bring neighbours together to learn\, reflect\, and walk in solidarity on the path toward reconciliation. Join a Walk for Wenjack event near you to honour the story of Chanie Wenjack\, reflect on the legacy of residential schools\, and walk together in community.  \nAll events are free admission. What was the impact on the aged folk who left their families\, and their long-time friends and neighbours? Or the physical stresses from the trip itself and the life they found in the wilderness? Or the impact on the older generation who could not\, or would not\, make the trip? She likes nothing more than travelling to archives in the UK\, Canada\, and the US. There\, she sneezed through bundles of dusty documents. The gems she finds help to piece together her ancestors’ colourful stories. \nIn 2017\, Dianne and her father published their family history. The book is titled “The Stalwart Brydons: From Scotland to Galt to Portage La Prairie”. Since then\, she has written articles and given talks to family history/genealogy/local history groups in both Scotland and Canada. She is currently President of the British Isles Family History Society of Greater Ottawa. \n  \n \n

DESCRIPTION:June 12 | 7:00 PM – 8:00 PM Virtual (via Zoom) \nAs a young child immersed in Scottish culture and tradition\, Christine Woodcock\, genealogy educator and owner of Genealogy Tours of Scotland\, was aware of some urban legends. Although she had traveled to Scotland several times in her formative years\, it wasn’t until she traveled there as an adult that the richness of those stories was brought to life.
