SUMMARY:Screening of “Voices: Lighting a Pathway to Indigenous Inclusion\,” from the Urban Inuit Identity Project
DESCRIPTION:In honour of upcoming National Indigenous Peoples Day\, join us for a screening of the film Voices: Lighting a Pathway to Indigenous Inclusion\, a documentary that examines how Canada’s colonial legacy continues to shape its institutions — especially in business\, policy\, and economic development. The film takes viewers on a journey through history and modern realities\, guided by Indigenous voices who share their lived experiences and visions for meaningful collaboration.  \nWe will be joined by producer of the film\, Muckpaloo Ipeelie\, an Inuk filmmaker and founder of Urban Inuit Identity Project Inc. from Iqaluit\, Nunavut. With a background in Medical Laboratory Technology\, Ipeelie recognized early-on the need for advocacy within healthcare settings. Over time\, this advocacy grew into a multi-faceted initiative that now supports Inuit across both urban and remote communities.   \nCoffee\, tea\, and treats will be provided.  \nFREE to attend; Preregistration is required.  \n  \nREGISTER >> \n  \nAbout the Film   \n“Voices: Lighting a Pathway to Indigenous Inclusion is a bold and timely documentary that examines how Canada’s colonial legacy continues to shape its institutions — especially in business\, policy\, and economic development. Through powerful interviews with Inuit and First Nations Elders and entrepreneurs\, the film reveals why Indigenous inclusion is not just a legal obligation in government contracts but also a moral and economic necessity for a better future.  \n  \nIt showcases leadership\, resilience\, and transformation across sectors — offering a way forward for organizations and individuals ready to move beyond performative gestures toward genuine partnerships.” Read more at the Urban Inuit Identity Project website.

SUMMARY:Exhibit Opening: Woodland People by Artist Taylor Cameron
DESCRIPTION:Exhibit Opening   \nSaturday\, June 6 | 2 PM – 4 PM   \nFREE to attend; all are welcome. Light refreshments will be served.  \nPlease RSVP online here or by calling (519) 797-2080.  \n  \nArtist Taylor Cameron delves into the history and rich culture of the Woodland peoples who have inhabited this territory since time immemorial. Taylor was inspired by his passion for uncovering forgotten stories and\, drawing on his archaeological training\, presents authentic depictions of past lifeways.   \nHis hope is to bring fragments and moments of history into contemporary spaces\, forging connections to Anishinaabe ancestors and supporting the reclamation of Anishinaabe identity.  \n  \nAbout Taylor Cameron  \nTaylor Cameron is an emerging Woodland artist from Saugeen First Nation No. 29. His paintings highlight the beauty of the natural world around us using vivid colour schemes that introduce a different perspective on animals\, landscapes\, and teachings. Taylor’s use of both movement and line work create balanced compositions that showcase the subject matter.

The methodology relies on the observation of shapes\, processes\, and systems to imitate nature’s genius and offer innovative solutions.   \n\nDo you want to see how a kingfisher’s beak inspired engineers to make trains quieter?  \n\n\nHow did a prickly thistle lead to an invention we use every day?  \n\n\nHow are seashells helping us develop stronger windows for our homes?  \n\nThe exhibition combines themes of innovation and nature to inspire visitors and create a sense of wonder about the natural world and inspiration for how natural designs can inform future development.  \nThis traveling exhibition comes from the Musée de l’ingéniosité J. Armand Bombardier (QC). \nProudly presented by Ontario Power Generation; Media partner 101.7 the One.  \nThe exhibition is a production of the Musée de l’ingéniosité J. SUMMARY:Discovering My O’Hagan Roots\, with guest speaker\, Joe O’Hagan
DESCRIPTION:In this presentation\, Joe will discuss and illustrate the steps\, and occasional missteps\, involved in collecting information pertaining to his O’Hagan ancestors. Joe will show how he put together this extensive information into two books (O’Hagan Genealogy – Part 1 John O’Hagan\, Bridget Ryle & Their Descendants and O’Hagan Genealogy – Part 2 The Life and Times of Dr. Thomas O’Hagan. 477 pages + 633 pages) to preserve it for future generations. \nThis is an in-person event\, hosted by the Bruce County Genealogical Society. \nFree to attend; Register online here or by calling (519)797-2080. \nLocation: Bruce County Museum & Cultural Centre (33 Victoria St N\, Southampton\, ON N0H 2L0) \nFor more information\, email the Bruce County Genealogical Society: BCGSwebinars@gmail.com \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n__\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Joe O’Hagan \nI was born and raised in Walkerton\, Bruce County\, Ontario\, and grew up there during the 1950s and 60s in this small town atmosphere. As a child\, I was surrounded by relatives who told family stories about colorful\, and even famous\, characters from my family and this made me curious to find out more about my family history and genealogy. Books like the Queen’s Bush and the Black Donnellys fuelled my burgeoning interest. My work as a police office and detective for the Toronto Police for 32 years\, starting in 1969\, gave me invaluable tools to collect facts\, distinguish fact from fiction\, and gather supporting evidence. \nOver the years\, I compiled a lot of information relating to my ancestors and more recent family members. One of my ancestors\, Dr. Thomas O’Hagan\, my great-granduncle\, was a well-known author\, poet and world traveler. Like him\, I love to travel and went to Ireland on a number of occasions to find out more about my roots and succeeded in discovering some difficult-to-find information about my ancestors who had left Ireland and travelled to Bruce County. In 2010\, I helped organize a family reunion in in Chepstow which 430 people attended from all over North America and Europe. The following year\, 50 of us O’Hagans and friends\, went to Ireland and explored our family’s original home property. In 2025\, I privately published two books about my ancestors\, O’Hagan Genealogy – Part 1 John O’Hagan\, Bridget Ryle & Their Descendants and O’Hagan Genealogy – Part 2 The Life and Times of Dr. Thomas O’Hagan.

SUMMARY:Exhibit Opening: They Are Loved - an epidemic of grief - Artist Tracey-Mae Chambers
DESCRIPTION:Exhibit Opening   \nFriday May 1 | 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM  \nFREE to attend; all are welcome. Light refreshments will be served.  \nSee full exhibit details and RSVP online or by calling (519) 797-2080.  \nGrief is universal\, but not all loss is socially supported; this is disenfranchised grief. When a loss is unrecognized\, or the grieving person is marginalized (e.g.\, due to addiction or mental health issues)\, their pain is often unseen.  \nAs a grieving mother and artist\, Tracey-Mae Chambers’ project ‘they are loved – an epidemic of grief’ aims to raise awareness of the lives lost across Canada and physically show that each person was loved. Born from her personal loss\, this project will grow to represent hundreds of loved ones.  \nThe installation\, which will be on display at the Museum from May 1-31\, uses textiles donated by families surviving a loss due to substance consumption. These fabrics are cut into strips and tied together\, binding our shared pain. Families without a textile can choose one from my collected database to commemorate their loved one.  \nSadly\, this project will likely continue to expand unless we improve mental health support.  Hugs from a broken momma’s heart.
