SUMMARY:African Cooking Workshop with Dede’s African Kitchen
DESCRIPTION:Celebrate Multiculturalism Day by joining guest chef instructor Ivy Anang\, owner of Dede’s African Kitchen in Owen Sound.  Participants will learn the art and skills of making authentic African cuisine\, specifically Jollof rice and chicken\, meatpies\, and plantain.   \nGuests will take home their food after class. Please bring a take-home container! All other materials will be provided.   \n$70 Members | $80 Non-members (Plus applicable fees).  \nRecommended for ages 18 and up. Space is limited\, preregistration is required.  \n  \nREGISTER >> \n  \nAbout Ivy Anang  \nIvy is a trained teacher from Ghana\, West Africa. After moving to Canada\, she began a career in the health care system before deciding to pursue entrepreneurship in the hospitality industry. Since she was a child\, cooking\, baking and singing have been her passions. Today\, Ivy’s business specializes mainly in African and Caribbean cuisine\, along with foods from other cultures. DESCRIPTION:July 27 – 31 | 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM  \nStep back in time to when tall ships crossed the Great Lakes and storms could swallow entire crews. In this week‑long camp\, our older explorers will dive into the real history of Lake Huron shipwrecks\, with a special spotlight on the HMS General Hunter\, a War of 1812 schooner still resting off Southampton’s shore.  \nThrough stories\, hands‑on art\, museum gallery visits\, and outdoor explorations\, campers will discover life aboard a schooner\, how wrecks form\, and how artifacts reveal the past. They’ll practice sailor knots\, send signal flags\, design “unsinkable” vessels\, and build creative dioramas inspired by Lake Huron’s hidden history. DESCRIPTION:Free Admission| 1:00 PM – 5:00 PM \nEnjoy Free Admission to the Museum on Sunday\, August 2\, in celebration of the Southampton Arts Festival. During your visit\, explore Taylor Cameron’s Woodland People exhibit in the Bruce Gallery\, featuring paintings that delve into the history and rich culture of the Woodland people who existed in this territory for time immemorial.  \n  \nUnveiling of the Fabric of Our Being Quilt Project | 1:00 PM  \nThe Fabric of Our Being Quilt project began in February\, hosted by artist and President’s Poet Nadine Williams\, who spoke on the International Decade for People of African Descent—a UN initiative recognizing the contributions\, histories\, and rights of people of African descent\, and encouraging communities to celebrate diversity. The project invited members of the community to design a quilt square reflecting on these themes and their own identities. The quilt squares have been sewn into a completed 6ft x 7ft quilt.  \nJoin us for this special unveiling of the Fabric of Our Being Quilt and celebration of the community.
