SUMMARY:Researching the 160th\, Through Military Records & Genealogical Websites With guest speaker\, Kent Kraemer
DESCRIPTION:November 10 | 7:00 PM (Virtual Via Zoom) \nIn researching the 160th Canadian Overseas (Bruce) Battalion\, military records were an invaluable tool. These personnel files contained\, not only\, personal information of the soldier\, but also that of their family. Their service history includes enlistment and discharge dates\, rank\, unit assignments\, and information about injuries sustained. \nMore information was needed to fully tell the stories of these men. Local history books and archival newspaper articles provided additional insights\, however\, genealogical sites helped complete the picture. The addition of census data\, marriage\, immigration and death records all contribute to bringing their soldiers to life. \nRegister HERE: https://bit.ly/2025-11-10-KentKraemer \nFB: 160th Bruce Battalion: https://www.facebook.com/160thBruceBattalion \n____ \nAbout Kent Kraemer \nAlthough born and and raised in Toronto\, Bruce County has always been ‘up home’.  His dad was born in Greenock and mom in Holyrood.  As a student\, he spent his summers farming in Kinloss and Kincardine Townships\, first for his uncle and then with his brother.  As a sales professional and entrepreneur\, he has experience in the brewing\, gaming\, automotive and insurance industries throughout North America.  The highlight of his career being the founding of a craft brewery in Niagara. \nHe became interested the 160th Bruce Battalion in 2007 and formed a Facebook page chronicling the battalion’s history in November 2015.  Researching the 160th involved searching many local\, provincial and federal archives.

SUMMARY:Secret Path Screenings at the BCM&CC
DESCRIPTION:The Secret Path is an animated film adaptation of Gord Downie’s album and Jeff Lemire’s graphic novel. Working with Downie’s poetry and music\, Lemire has created a powerful visual representation of the life of Chanie Wenjack. The film is divided into ten chapters\, each a song from Downie’s musical retelling of Chanie’s story – from his escape from the Cecilia Jeffrey Indian Residential School\, to his subsequent and heartbreaking death from hunger and exposure to the harsh weather. The final product is a uniquely immersive emotional experience – an insight into the life of a little boy who\, as Gord has said\, he never knew\, “but will always love.”  \nRuntime: 60 minutes  \n  \nOctober 20 – Bruce County Museum & Cultural Centre  \nFREE to attend; Preregister to save your seats. \n11:30 AM – REGISTER >> \n 7:00 PM – REGISTER >> \n  \nWalk for Wenjack events in Bruce County are hosted in partnership with Cape Croker Park\, Ktaamgwedaagwad Gindasswin Adult Learning Centre\, Nawash Chief & Council\, Bruce County Museum & Cultural Centre\, Bruce County Public Library\, Municipality of Kincardine\, Municipality of Brockton\, and Bruce Power.  \n
