Limited to small groups\, so please pre-register. \n11:00 AM – 1:00 PM    \nOctober 2\, 9\, 16\, 23\, 30   \nNovember 6\, 13\, 20   \nFREE to attend; REGISTER >> \n\nIndian Day Schools: The National and Local Story  \nSeptember 16 – November 30   \nMore than 699 Indian Day Schools were established and operated by the Canadian Government since the 1920’s\, with an estimation of over 200\,000 Indigenous children attending these federally operated institutions. Seven of these schools were located in Bruce County; four in Cape Croker (Sydney Bay\, Little Port Elgin\, St. Mary’s Junior and St. Mary’s Senior School) and three in Saugeen (French Bay\, Saugeen Village and Scotch Settlement).  \nIndian Day Schools is a lesser-known subject among everyday Canadians who may be familiar with the Residential Schools System. What is certain and can be attested to by many Survivors of Indian Day Schools is that the trauma experienced was just as severe as what has been reported in Residential Schools\, with the only difference being that the Day School students went home at night.   \nMany of the Day School Administrators\, Priests and Nuns\, continued to run the Day Schools as soon as they transferred from Residential Schools so it was extremely painful and triggering to find out that they would continue to experience abuse even if the parent saw the children at night.   \nThe BCM&CC in partnership with the Legacy of Hope Foundation\, Saugeen First Nation\, and Chippewas of Nawash Unceded First Nation are pleased to bring this exhibition and local perspective to the region.   \nProudly Presented by Enbridge.  \n  \nWARNING: This exhibition contains subject matter that may be disturbing to some visitors and may be triggering. DESCRIPTION:October 5 | 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM   \nDuring the national celebration of arts and culture known as Culture Days\, the Museum will host a special event dedicated to the current exhibit\, Indian Day Schools: The National and Local Story.   \nParticipants will have a chance to engage and interact with the exhibit with a local Saugeen Ojibway Nation community member to learn deeper insights into the broader history of Indian Day Schools in Canada and the legacy of their local impact\, with seven schools located in Bruce County; four in Cape Croker (Sydney Bay\, Little Port Elgin\, St. Mary’s Junior and St. Mary’s Senior School) and three in Saugeen (French Bay\, Saugeen Village and Scotch Settlement).  \nThis event is FREE to attend. Preregistration is encouraged.  \nGeneral admission to the Museum will also be free throughout the day on October 5th.  \n  \nREGISTER >> \n  \nAbout Culture Days  \nCulture Days is a national celebration of arts and culture. At the end of each September\, millions of people attend thousands of free participatory arts and culture events across the country both in-person and online. SUMMARY:TIFF Film Screening: Riceboy Sleeps
DESCRIPTION:October 18 | 7:00 PM  \nOur TIFF Film series continues with a special screening of Riceboy Sleeps\, a 2022 Canadian drama directed by Anthony Shim. This poignant film offers a heartfelt exploration of the Korean immigrant experience and the bond between a mother and her son.  \nWe will be joined by starring actor Ethan Hwang for a special appearance and Q&A session after the screening\, providing a unique opportunity to delve deeper into the film’s themes and production.  \n  \nAbout the Film \nRiceboy Sleeps follows the story of So-Young (Choi Seung-yoon)\, a Korean immigrant single mother who moves to Canada to provide a better life for her teenage son\, Dong-Hyun (Ethan Hwang). Based in part on Shim’s own childhood\, the film captures the challenges and triumphs of their journey. Shot primarily in the Greater Vancouver Area with some scenes in South Korea\, Shim employs long takes to create a deeply immersive and emotional narrative.  \nThe film premiered at the 2022 Toronto International Film Festival\, where it won the Platform Prize. Limited to small groups\, so please pre-register. \n11:00 AM – 1:00 PM    \nOctober 2\, 9\, 16\, 23\, 30   \nNovember 6\, 13\, 20   \nFREE to attend; REGISTER >> \n\nIndian Day Schools: The National and Local Story  \nSeptember 16 – November 30   \nMore than 699 Indian Day Schools were established and operated by the Canadian Government since the 1920’s\, with an estimation of over 200\,000 Indigenous children attending these federally operated institutions. Seven of these schools were located in Bruce County; four in Cape Croker (Sydney Bay\, Little Port Elgin\, St. Mary’s Junior and St. Mary’s Senior School) and three in Saugeen (French Bay\, Saugeen Village and Scotch Settlement).  \nIndian Day Schools is a lesser-known subject among everyday Canadians who may be familiar with the Residential Schools System. What is certain and can be attested to by many Survivors of Indian Day Schools is that the trauma experienced was just as severe as what has been reported in Residential Schools\, with the only difference being that the Day School students went home at night.   \nMany of the Day School Administrators\, Priests and Nuns\, continued to run the Day Schools as soon as they transferred from Residential Schools so it was extremely painful and triggering to find out that they would continue to experience abuse even if the parent saw the children at night.   \nThe BCM&CC in partnership with the Legacy of Hope Foundation\, Saugeen First Nation\, and Chippewas of Nawash Unceded First Nation are pleased to bring this exhibition and local perspective to the region.   \nProudly Presented by Enbridge.  \n  \nWARNING: This exhibition contains subject matter that may be disturbing to some visitors and may be triggering.
