SOUTHAMPTON, ON [May 16, 2022] This week, the BCM&CC celebrates the first of its two major upcoming summer exhibits with the opening of Sonic Sensation, an interactive exhibit about the science of sound and hearing for all ages.
On Thursday, May 19, Museum members will enjoy an exclusive chance to check out Sonic Sensation, a travelling exhibit on view from the Sciencenter in Ithaca, New York and sponsored by Ontario Power Generation (OPG) and 97.9 the Bruce. An opera singer is set to perform live, fun wave and sound demos will be held in the Bruce Power Theatre, and some additional match-the-sound and tuning fork activities for kids will be offered. A cash bar will also be available and light refreshments will be served.
“If you’re not currently a member of the BCM&CC but want to get in on our early Sonic Sensation sneak peak, it’s a great time to grab a Museum membership,” says Renata Bell, Development Officer. “A Museum membership not only guarantees special invites to all of our exhibit openings, but also free admission throughout the year to the Museum and our seasonal events.” Anyone purchasing or renewing their membership right now will also be entered into a May is Museum Month draw for a $250 Great Wolf Lodge gift card.
On June 3, the Museum will host an opening event for the second of its summer exhibits, Spirit Seeds: A Celebration of Indigenous Beadwork, curated by renowned Indigenous artist Naomi Smith. The opening will be followed by additional programming including two curator talk sessions and two virtual beading workshops. This exhibit is sponsored by Bruce Power. Tickets are on sale now at brucemuseum.ca.
