MUSE Talks: Ian Evans on Antarctic Exploration and the Imperial Trans Antarctic Expedition of 1914-17

November 12 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Muse Talks Academic Lecture Series

Thursday, November 12 | 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM

One of the greatest survival stories in history began when Sir Ernest Shackleton’s ship, Endurance, became trapped and ultimately crushed by Antarctic ice during the Imperial Trans-Antarctic Expedition of 1914-1917. Against extraordinary odds, Shackleton led his crew to safety through months of hardship on the ice, a perilous voyage across the Southern Ocean, and a daring mountain crossing of South Georgia Island.

Drawing on his five journeys to Antarctica, including an expedition tracing Shackleton’s route through the Weddell Sea, Elephant Island, and South Georgia, intrepid adventurer Ian Evans brings this remarkable story to life. Through historical accounts and personal experiences from the Antarctic wilderness, he explores both the epic leadership of Shackleton and the lesser-known human stories of the men who struggled to survive alongside him.

Join Ian for a fascinating look at Antarctic exploration, featuring unforgettable landscapes, firsthand insights, and the enduring legacy of one of history’s most celebrated explorers.
