September 28, 2026

6:30 pm
 – 8:30 pm

Join award-winning children’s author Melanie Florence for a thoughtful and practical workshop designed to help parents, grandparents, caregivers, and educators approach conversations about Truth and Reconciliation with children.

Through the lens of children’s literature, storytelling, and age-appropriate discussion, Melanie will share ways to introduce difficult histories with care, honesty, and hope while supporting children’s questions, empathy, and understanding.

About Melanie Florence:

Melanie Florence is a Canadian writer of Cree and Scottish heritage whose books for children and young adults explore Indigenous stories, family relationships, history, and contemporary issues.

She is the author of several acclaimed titles, including Missing Nimâmâ, winner of the 2016 TD Canadian Children’s Literature Award, and Stolen Words, a moving picture book about language, family, and the intergenerational impacts of residential schools. Her work offers an accessible and meaningful entry point for families seeking to learn, listen, and continue important conversations together.
