In honour of Remembrance Day, the Bruce County Museum and Cultural Centre will welcome acclaimed historian and author Ted Barris on Saturday, November 8, from 1 to 2:30 p.m. His special presentation explores the significant contributions of Canadian airmen during the Battle of Britain in the Second World War.
Marking the 85th anniversary of this pivotal campaign, Barris will highlight the extraordinary bravery of Canadian flyers who helped defend England during 113 harrowing days in 1940. Canadians – some from well-known families, others fresh from the farm – served in forty-seven squadrons, with twenty pilots lost in action and twelve receiving the Distinguished Flying Cross for their courage.
“Canadian innovation and courage helped win the greatest air battle of the Second World War,” says Barris. “Through documentary film footage, sound, interview clips and commentary, my presentation will give attendees a personalized sense of the Canadian pilots, politicians, engineers, and ordinary citizens who stepped up and made a difference.”
Through his compelling storytelling, Barris will share little-known accounts of the Canadians who answered the call to duty in one of history’s most defining air battles.
Guests will enjoy complimentary coffee, tea, and treats as part of this engaging afternoon event. Admission is $10 for Museum members and $15 for non-members.
Copies of Baris’ The Battle of Britain will be available for purchase using e-transfer or cash with the opportunity for autographs during the event.
