Black History Month: The Fabric of our Being Project

February 28 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm
Black History Month

Join artist and President’s Poet Nadine Williams for a powerful, hands-on public art experience honouring the International Decade for People of African Descent—a UN global initiative recognizing the contributions, histories, and rights of people of African descent, and encouraging communities to learn, reflect on, and celebrate diversity.

Each person will create an 8.5” x 11” tile (materials will be provided)—or contribute ideas for a tile—representing “the fabric of your being”: your experiences, values, culture, or the elements that make you YOU. These individual pieces will be designed and stitched together by The Nadine Williams Collective to form a collaborative quilt that will be publicly unveiled at a later date and permanently displayed at the BCM&CC as a symbol of diversity, inclusion, and shared community pride.

This inclusive program welcomes everyone to participate. No art experience is required.

Ages 8+, children must be accompanied by an adult; all registrants must be preregistered.

FREE; Space is limited, preregistration required.

Funding for this project is provided by Community Foundation Grey Bruce.
