Enjoy free admission to the Museum on Wednesday, September 30, in honour of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
During your visit, take time to view the Witness Blanket exhibition, located in the Museum’s OPG Feature Gallery (lower level) and explore the interactive Biinaagami Water Map on the upper level, open for public exploration from 1:00 PM – 5:00 PM in the Bruce Gallery.
About the Witness Blanket
The Witness Blanket is a powerful art installation created by master carver Carey Newman to recognize the atrocities of the residential school era, honour the children and symbolize ongoing reconciliation. Inspired by a woven blanket, this cedar-framed artwork is made of hundreds of items from Indian residential schools, Survivors, churches, governments and other cultural sites across Canada. Each item tells a story of loss, strength, resilience and pride.

About the Biinaagami Water Map
The Biinaagami Water Map is a giant floor map that uses augmented reality (AR) to take visitors through the Great Lakes—St. Lawrence watershed, giving voice to the waters and amplifying Indigenous knowledge and histories. The map is enriched with storytelling—highlighting diverse languages, the Indigenous names of these waterbodies, and the history of the land among this network of waterways.
