Celebrated each year during the first week of April, Archives Awareness Week provides the opportunity to highlight the importance of preserving the documentary heritage of Ontario’s communities. 

 

The Archives & Research Room will be open for free admission during Ontario’s Archives Awareness Week, which runs from April 7 to 11, 2026. 

 

We’ll also be offering a FREE behind the scenes tour of the Archives & Research Room:

 

Archives & Research Room Behind-the-Scenes Tour, April 10 

10:30 – 11:30 a.m. 

Join in this unique opportunity for a guided tour of the Research Room, Archives’ secure storage area, and a selection of archival items not often on display.  You’ll leave with a stronger connection to Bruce County’s history and a great understanding of how it’s preserved and accessed. 

FREE admission to the tour.

Anyone wishing to dive deeper into Bruce County’s history, including our special Archives Awareness Week focus on marine heritage, may visit the Archives to explore archaeological reports, books, business records, nautical charts, photos, ship logs, vessel registers and so much more.

By 1869 there were three brickyards operating in Kincardine including James Keays, R. Rutherford and M & A McLean.   Brothers Murdock and Angus
